Please, all half-assed grind bands - don't read this review and start sending me all your releases for review. I'm still not a grind freak, no matter what I will write hereafter.
I was blown away by the CD "Mind vortex" Fromtheashes released over two years ago and really wanted more, but I had to wait. It took until now to get something new out there… and to tell you the truth I'm a bit disappointed. It's not like this is bad in anyway, but after such a long time I was hoping on something even more fierce and raging - now it's more of an extension of that CD. Still, this is prime Swedish grindcore that are light-years ahead of any guttural gore grind band.
I just flipped this 7" and… Splitter fucking destroys! Insane grindcore with a lot of käng-riffs added when they for some short periods ease up on the speed. I'm glad though that they don't cut down on the speed too many times as it's when they floor it I go fucking mental and just start thrashing around waving my arms in the air like a maniac. Having their MCD "Vardagsångest" and CD "En sorglig historia" fresh in my memory I, after adding these tracks as well, dare to call this the best grind act currently operation within the borders of this country decided to be named Sweden. I've been looking forward to this release for a very long time as this release have been surrounded with problems and delays, but finally it's here. I had very high expectations on this one, especially on Splitter since their songs on this release where recorded at the same time as the songs on their "En sorglig historia" MCD that where released earlier this year. After listening to this split a number of times I can confirm that Splitter doesn't let me down this time either. They continue to deliver first class grind with a relentless energy and anger. It doesn't get better then this. The good thing with this split is that when you are done with the Splitter-side you still have about 7 minutes of quality grind from Sweden. Fromtheashes has a more hardcore punk attached to their sound and less metal compared to Splitter, which for me is more appealing most of the times. This split really gives you the best from the swedish grind-scene so you better check this out - you won't be disappointed, this is fucking brutal. [Sonny, december 1st 2006]
